Could you elaborate further or even write a new article about estimating the costs of dedicated product management, engineering, and support resources for custom apps?

It's ok if they have a shared feature set, but so soon anything custom is required, like your say, your will be in a world of pain. The API problem is manageable, but you need a right process for forced updates, so that clients are on newer versions of apis
